Isla Mujeres

Isla Mujeres looking north

Isla Mujeres is just off Cancun and offers a much more "Mexican" flavor.  Although a number of ferries depart from the hotel zone, these are not as frequent as (and much more expensive than) the ferries from Puerto Juarez, just north of downtown Cancun city.  A 20-minute high speed ferry trip will transport you away from the hustle and bustle of Cancun to a very walkable, laid back town.

A major attraction is Garrafon Park, which can be seen in the photo above at the bottom left part of the island just before it narrows and you can see a good strip of beach.  We spent much of the day in Garrafon, and then wandered the town before taking an evening ferry back to the mainland.
