sky.jpg (112892 bytes)We visited Acoma Pueblo, 50 miles west of Albuquerque. This is the site of Sky City, built atop a 345-foot sheer mesa. Since the valley is already at about 6,600 feet, Sky City is at about 7,000 feet. The guided tour (the only option) lasts about an hour and is very informative. Sky City, vendors selling crafts to tour visitors, and a casino are major sources of income for the Acoma.

After the tour, we stopped into the casino to visit the restaurant. One of their specials is Larry's Big Scramble - 6 eggs mixed with generous servings of chopped ham and sausage, hash browns, toast, and your choice of green or red chile. (I went with green, which is hotter.) Susie and I shared this monster "lunch" for a whopping $3.95.

We finished off the day with a visit to Petroglyph National Monument. The main section is a 2.5 mile loop trail with many petroglyphs (Native American rock art).
