The Alamo

Much of the original Alamo is gone; the main building and a portion of the long barracks are the two major portions remaining.  Across the street, where the turista shops are lined up, you can see remnants of the old walls which surrounded and protected the Alamo during the siege.

The Alamo is now a shrine; no photographs of the interior are allowed and even the gift store has almost no postcards of the interior for sale.  Much of the inside is taken up with the state and national flags of the defenders' homes, each with the number of defenders from that state/country who died for the cause of Texas independence.  I was not previously aware that a number of foreigners died at the Alamo.  (Music: Eyes of Texas)
