if you're driving to Flagstaff from Nevada, you can break the monotony of I-40 by taking the portion of historic Route 66 between Kingman and Williams.  Easy access to I-40 from both towns.  Although the views are not a whole lot better, there are a few towns in between that may appeal to your sense of adventure.  At least pick up a Route 66 T-shirt...<g>

Arizona is the Grand Canyon State and that attraction is usually on most people's list of "must sees."   And while it is a very big ditch, it was never high on my list since it really has little to "do" unless you're going to hike down into, or raft, it.  Most people just walk a bit around the rim, take a few photos and head for a gift shop before calling it a day. But since we were in the area....
