In November 2011, we drove the California coast from Eureka to San Simeone.  We'd driven the coast between San Francisco and San Simeone before, but not the northern coast.  So this trip would be a mix of new and old.

To avoid any backtracking, we flew into Sacramento and then drove up I-5 to Redding, where we spent time at the Sundial Bridge. This pedestrian bridge at Turtle Bay Exploration Park which crosses the Sacramento River is a functional work of art.  The walkway is made of translucent glass and no part of the bridge touches land.

From Redding, we headed west and crossed the Trinity Alps, which put us out at the coast near Arcata, just north of Eureka.
