French Quarter

New Orleans and "French Quarter" are virtually synonymous; and the Pavlovian response to "French Quarter" is "Bourbon Street."  But for the most part, Bourbon Street has become one continuous bar and tacky tourist store.  You're much more likely to find the French Quarter flavor on Royal or Chartres Streets, which are south of, and parallel to, Bourbon.
