Caves, Crater Lake, Crashing Waterfalls, & Covered Bridges

After crossing into Oregon on US 199 from the redwoods, you'll find Oregon Caves National Monument after a steep 20 mile ascent on a side road from Cave Junction, about 15 miles from the California line.  These caves have a special distinction - unlike most other caves, which are limestone, the Oregon caves are marble.  (Don't make this trip unless you can walk 500+ often steep stairs.)

These alien egg sacs are ready to open up!

After a tiring day in the cold (40 F) caves,  we looked forward to an overnight in Grants Pass.  We recuperated with fine pizza and beer at the Wild River Brewery to prepare for a second jetboat excursion on the Rogue river the next day.   Unlike our first Rogue river trip on the coast, this excursion further inland promised rougher water.  After a calm trip to a hearty brunch buffet at the riverside OK Corral, we took on Hellgate Canyon.  No one lost any brunch on our boat!
