Crater Lake National Park

From Grants Pass, we headed east for an overnight
in Klamath Falls.  After becoming accustomed to stopping for ice cream after a scenic view on the coast, we had to adjust to a more "boonies" routine between Klamath Falls and Roseburg.

This portion of the trip encompasses two scenic byways - Volcanic Legacy byway (between Klamath Falls and Crater Lake), and the North Umpqua River portion (between Crater Lake and Roseburg) of the Rogue-Umpqua Rivers byway.

crater10_tn.jpg (4114 bytes) On the crest of the Cascades, Crater Lake is 6 miles long, 4.5 miles wide and 1,932 feet deep.  The water is so clear, you can see a  white dinner plate at least 100 feet down. The 26-mile shore is surrounded by 500 - 2000 foot lava cliffs.
