Newport was easily our favorite coast city.  Its downtown waterfront combines a scenic harbor with a blend of fishing industry businesses and tourist shopping in a "natural" setting which contrasted with the "yuppieness" of Cannon Beach and Seaside.

South of Newport, the Coast Highway stretches an especially scenic 70 miles to Reedsport.  On one side of the highway is the ocean and on the other is the Siuslaw National Forest.  The dozen park areas along this segment include Ona Beach, Seal Rock, Smelt Sands, Cape Perpetua and Heceta Head.
