"Wow!" must be the universal reaction

These northern dunes at the "overlook"  are tame.

We took two days to cover the 140 miles from Reedsport to the California line and then 25 more miles to Crescent City.   Unfortunately, we had to cover about 110 miles on the first day, as we had reserved a Rogue River hydrojet trip for the morning
of the second day in Gold Beach, about 30 miles
north of Brookings. Even with a 10-hour day, we did not see all that we had hoped to between Reedsport and Gold Beach.

On the southern end of the Oregon Dunes is Coos Bay and just to the southwest is Cape Arago and Shore Acres State Park.  This park was previously the estate of
Louis Simpson, a prominent shipbuilder and lumber industry magnate and is located on a rocky bluff with spectacular ocean views.
