Southern Utah 2009

The drive to Page (AZ) was somewhat remote but scenic.  We had gorgeous view s of the Vermillion Cliffs, and then came across a very strange area called Cliff Dwellers just before crossing the Colorado River at Navajo Bridge.

The Cliff Dwellers area features strange rock formation which folks lived in as well as native Americans selling jewelry.

Cliff Dwellers

navajo.jpg (80184 bytes)Shortly after the Cliff Dwellers area, we crossed over the Colorado River at Navajo Bridge.  It is the only crossing of the river in the area for over 500 miles.  There's a very nice visitor center and also a pedestrian bridge.

Past Navajo Bridge, the highway climbs into the mountains before you arrive at Page.  Just outside page is Horseshoe bend, where the Colorado River does an amazing 180-degree turn around a small island.

Page is about half-way through the loop we drove.  There's a Wal-Mart and all the other "big city" conveniences, including a Burger King. But they never heard of "Value Meals."  (And it was a Wednesday - which is Whopper value meal day at participating locations.)
