Saturday morning featured a showing of Peter Parson's ('55) documentary "Secret War in the Pacific" about his father's role in supplying and organizing guerillas in the Philippines.  This was followed by a sneak preview of Lou Gopal's  ('62) documentary "American School 1920-1970."  Both documentaries were well received.

After making its debut at a 70's reunion in 1999, followed by an appearance at the 2003 AISAAM reunion, Jeepney Jeopardy has become a favorite alum reunion event.  Tom Larson '74 made his third acclaimed performance as Alex Trebek, testing four teans of alums' knowledge of all things Pinoy and AS. Categories included AS-IS, Philippine Presidents, Pinoy Places, Taglish and the ever popular "View It", where the answer is demonstrated.

were the final word

For Jeepney Jeopardy III, the teams were named after "clubs": Polo, Seafront, Elks and Army-Navy.  I had the honor of serving on Seafront team.

"Alex" explains the rules

As it turned out, it was a heated and see-saw battle between Seafront and Polo Club for final victory.  Going into Final Jeopardy, the ranking was Polo, Elks, Seafront and Army-Navy.

The Final Jeopardy question was: name the second deepest part of the ocean in the world.  The correct answer is either: Mindanao Deep or Philippine Trench.  Army-Navy doubled to10,000 pesos and a brief lead by answering correctly.  Elks dropped to zero pesos when it answered incorrectly. Seafront surged to 11,800 pesos and the lead with the correct answer.

If Polo Club failed to answer correctly, Seafront would be victorious.  The room was silent as Polo Club presented a hybrid answer: Mindanao Trench.  All eyes turned to Judge Parrenas for a ruling as Polo Club warned: "we have friends outside."  Alex reminded everyone that "it's jas for fun!"  After a pregnant pause, Judge Parrenas made his ruling....close enough!  Polo Club was victorious!

Alex then asked the crowd to identify, by clapping, the "Most Bastus" player, which went to Seafront player Lou Gopal '62. He received a genuine "man-in-the-barrel."

Alex then asked for the crowd to select the MVP (Most Valuable Pinoy).  This award, a wooden San Miguel beer mug, went to Noriel Maghirang '75 of Polo Club.
